The Rock

The Rock

A man was sleeping at night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light and the Savior appeared. The Savior showed him a large rock in front of his cabin and told the man: “I want you to go and push that rock.”

The man woke up and was so motivated. He ran to find the rock and started pushing it with all his might. He pushed and pushed, but nothing happened. He kept pushing the rock all day long. The next day he did the same, but the rock did not move at all. For three months the man kept pushing the huge boulder, but then he quit. That night he had another dream, and he heard the voice saying: “Why did you stop pushing the rock?”

“My Lord,” he said, “I have laboured long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which You have asked. Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a centimetre. I am failing You.”

“But, son, I did not ask you to move the rock.” The Savior responded compassionately. “I simply asked you to push.”
